Cannes to host movie role auction

Cannes to host movie role auction

Budding movie stars can bid for the chance to appear in a top Hollywood movie in a charity auction to be held at the Cannes Film Festival.
The live auction offers the chance to bid on film set visits, premiere tickets, film experiences, dates with movie stars and actual film roles - including producer roles, cameos, walk-on and speaking parts.
It will take place at the 63rd Cannes festival on 14 May, via eBay and the online site BuyaMovieRole.com.
The movie role auction, which is supported by Ray Winstone and Jodie Kidd, aims to raise awareness for The Robin Hood Tax which is being promoted by film director Richard Curtis, Sienna Miller, Bill Nighy and Ben Kingsley.
Bidders can opt to star in the following films: The Robin Hood Tax, starring Ben Kingsley and Bill Nighy; Catwalk - the new film by legendary horror director, Tony Hickox; The Harrowing - A Blair Witch meets Paranormal Activity style chiller by Tim Burke; and Errata - the next Stray Dogs film directed by UK film maker, James Marquand.
Also on offer is a role in a secret adapted MTV screenplay and Biblical satire. The auction bid winner will shoot a scene live at the Cannes launch event on 14 May.
Proceeds from the auction will go to a number of film and entertainment industry charities set up by A-list celebrities, including WWF: Year of The Tiger and children's charities.
Co-founder of BuyaMovieRole.com, and cult MTV film director, Tim Burke said: "This will be the world's first live movie role auction, so we're really excited to be involved in it. Especially as the proceeds go towards charitable causes set up by the film and entertainment industry."

Cherie Blair joins A-list at £25m charity gala

We may be in the grip of a global credit crisis, but try telling that to the celebrities and City slickers who raised more than £25 million at London's most glamorous charity gala.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie joined the likes of Jemima Khan, Elizabeth Hurley, Trudie Styler, Bob Geldof, David Bailey, the Duchess of York and Uma Thurman at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich on Thursday night.
Mr Blair was the keynote speaker, joking in his opening comments that he was probably the only person in the room who had got richer in the last year.
His wife stood out from the crowd in an Indian-inspired red salwar kameez as she posed for pictures with the assembled A-listers.
The Blairs were among the 1,000 guests at a dinner in aid of Absolute Return for Kids (ARK), a children's charity set up by Arpad 'Arki' Busson, the multi-millionaire French financier who previously dated Elle Macpherson, the model, and is now stepping out with Miss Thurman, the Hollywood actress.
Tables at the event cost up to £100,000 each and the majority were occupied by traders, managers and bankers from London's hedge fund community.

Guests arrived by riverboat to the strains of a gospel choir, as painted acrobats performed on the lawns.
The menu by Tom Aikens, the renowned chef, featured baby Italian artichokes with black Piedmont truffle, followed by black cod, truffle ice-cream and bespoke hand-crafted chocolates, washed down with Veuve Clicquot. Stevie Wonder provided the music.
The fundraising target for the evening was £15 million but exceeded all expectations, raising a total of £25.5 million. It was the second highest figure for a single night of charity fundraising in Europe - the record is held by Ark's 2007 gala, which made £26.8 million.
This year's figure included an auction with lots including a role in Miss Thurman's next film (which sold for £450,000), a Fiat Cinquecento customised by artist Tracey Emin (£200,000) and a shooting party at Mulgrave Castle in North Yorkshire (£350,000).
Most expensive lot of the night was a seven-foot, heart-shaped butterfly painting by Damien Hirst which fetched £900,000 after a heated bidding war. Other items included a trip to Paris Fashion Week to meet designer Karl Lagerfeld and a flight by private jet to pick up cases of wine from a vineyard in Bordeaux.
Busson, 45, chairman of hedge fun EIM, acknowledged the economic downturn. "Last year everyone was worried about an eventual slowdown. This year it's real," he said. "It's in the moment of the crunch that giving is even more important because we have to stretch every dollar."
He told the assembled guests: "We are keepers of the world's wealth. It's our responsibility to come together and give to our common humanity."
The financier founded Ark six years ago. The charity helps to transform the lives of children in the UK, Europe and the Third World through healthcare and education.

BREDRIN FILMWORKS LIMITED AND POSITIVE STRIDES UK CHARITY LAUNCHED PROJECT POSTCODE ON 19TH NOVEMBER 2011 TO UNIVERSAL ACCLAIM.

BREDRIN FILMWORKS LIMITED AND POSITIVE STRIDES UK CHARITY LAUNCHED PROJECT POSTCODE ON 19TH NOVEMBER 2011 TO UNIVERSAL ACCLAIM.
In light of recent events regarding the social unrest among young people up and down the country, the newly formed film company BREDRIN FILMWORKS founded by Reading born Hollywood actor Winston Ellis has launched an exciting and innovative film and music initiative entitled PROJECT POSTCODE.
This project is the brainchild of award-winning writer and educational consultant Mark Straker of registered charity positivestrides.org.uk who has an extensive track record of helping disengaged young people turn their lives around. One of his previous projects - entitled PUKKA (Peer Understanding Knowing Knowledge Attitude) - reduced the crime rate on a local council estate in Hertfordshire by 18% and won awards both locally, nationally and internationally.
Project Postcode will engage, motivate and inspire young people by providing training, learning and work placements on a real feature length film. Through effective short taster workshops and master classes, young people will be trained and educated by established people within the film industry.
Project Postcode specifically targets disadvantaged young people with diverse needs such as social and economic deprivation, young people from minority ethnic backgrounds, those in danger of becoming homeless and those not in education, employment and training. These groups are often socially excluded from mainstream learning opportunities at both higher and further education institutions.
The celebrity packed event at the Shehnai in Reading, was a superb mixture of entertainment, Indian cuisine and innovative fundraising for Project Postcode.  Faith Brown, Luc Floreani, Andrew Stone, Chris Adamson, Andy Beckwith, Scott Welch, Kevin Haggarthy, Paul Canoville, Chris Kenna, Dean Smith, Jan Williams, Jason Cook, Adrian Grant, Denise Pearson, Jay Khan, Jamie Dorrington, Deepak Verma, Jonathan Renner, Luther Blisset, Matt Stirling, Damon Scott, Slivio Simac, Ganjo and Andrew Rogers were amongst celebrity guests who walked the red carpet to join some 400 VIP guests, fashion designers, local dignitaries and sports’ stars. It was attended by representatives from the national press and media including OK Magazine and The Sunday Times.
The evening’s entertainment produced by Martin Dickinson ( West End theatre artist) and compered by David Ford (Dickinson’s Real Deal) featured breathtaking performances including World Eagle Claw Chinese Dancers and the young superstars from the Guildford School of Acting. Luc Floreani wowed the crowd with his passionate support for Project Postcode and performance of the tracks from his forthcoming album.  The musical entertainment continued with superb individual performances from Andrew Stone, The Floe, Martin Dickinson, Liz Townsend and Ledfoot.  The audience was thoroughly entertained throughout the evening and was generous in their praise.
Winston Ellis, Founder of Bredrin Filmworks stated, “It was a fantastic event.  The feedback that we have received from the guests has been superb. The messages of support over the past 24 hours have been amazing and touching.  I am so proud of everyone involved. The evening was a real testament to Project Postcode in that we were able to launch it with such young budding entertainers and amazing technical crew who held their own alongside world-class celebrity artists.
Faith Brown and Luc Floreani praised Bredrin Filmworks for “delivering a great event,” and pledged their support for Project Postcode. Jamie Dorrington called the event “a great success,” and was “amazed” by the turnout. “I think we can all agree that it was a success,” stated Andy Beckwith “Project Postcode will grow from now on.”
The event had generous support from many and varied sponsors from the film, media, sport and commerce including Garry Lineker, Ford, Penta Hotel, Hug Radio, Unseen TV and London Ducktours to name but a few.  Many thanks to them all.
