Cannes to host movie role auction

Cannes to host movie role auction

Budding movie stars can bid for the chance to appear in a top Hollywood movie in a charity auction to be held at the Cannes Film Festival.
The live auction offers the chance to bid on film set visits, premiere tickets, film experiences, dates with movie stars and actual film roles - including producer roles, cameos, walk-on and speaking parts.
It will take place at the 63rd Cannes festival on 14 May, via eBay and the online site BuyaMovieRole.com.
The movie role auction, which is supported by Ray Winstone and Jodie Kidd, aims to raise awareness for The Robin Hood Tax which is being promoted by film director Richard Curtis, Sienna Miller, Bill Nighy and Ben Kingsley.
Bidders can opt to star in the following films: The Robin Hood Tax, starring Ben Kingsley and Bill Nighy; Catwalk - the new film by legendary horror director, Tony Hickox; The Harrowing - A Blair Witch meets Paranormal Activity style chiller by Tim Burke; and Errata - the next Stray Dogs film directed by UK film maker, James Marquand.
Also on offer is a role in a secret adapted MTV screenplay and Biblical satire. The auction bid winner will shoot a scene live at the Cannes launch event on 14 May.
Proceeds from the auction will go to a number of film and entertainment industry charities set up by A-list celebrities, including WWF: Year of The Tiger and children's charities.
Co-founder of BuyaMovieRole.com, and cult MTV film director, Tim Burke said: "This will be the world's first live movie role auction, so we're really excited to be involved in it. Especially as the proceeds go towards charitable causes set up by the film and entertainment industry."
